What Happens to the Food Web When Phytoplankton Decreases?

The Impact of Drastically Decreasing Phytoplankton on the Food Web

Well for starters, since phytoplankton is a very important producer in the food web, animals that depend on phytoplankton will slowly begin to extinguish. The animals that eat phytoplankton are also a very crucial part of the web, so if the animal that eats phytoplankton dies out, more predators of that one animal will die. Eventually, the whole food chain will be destroyed.

What might happen to the food web below if the number of phytoplankton drastically decreased? The food chain will slowly begin to fall apart and food sources become scarce due to lack of producers. Producers are important to every food chain and are needed for herbivores which lead on to other consumers.
